Department of Bakel

The department of Bakel is one of the three departments of the area of Tambacounda (Senegal).

Administration

Its chief town is the town of Bakel.

History

The territorial spring of the department and its chief town were fixed by decree on February 21st 2002.

Geography

The department is isolated a little because of its offset geographical position, near at the same time to the Mauritania and the Mali.

Population

At the time of the census of December 2002, the population was of 192.522 inhabitants. In 2005, it was estimated at 215.680 people.
