Denturology

The denturology is part of the Odontologie which treats dental prostheses.

The correct term to name the part of the dental medicine which treats replacement of the teeth missing is the prosthodontie . The speciality or expert is the prosthodontist, a dentist specialist. The word denturology is a term created to describe the work of the not-dentists (denturologists) legislatively abilities has to make removable dental prostheses. It is not a university speciality but rather a technical training. (CEGEP in Quebec)

The installation of the dental prosthesis in mouth which is removable or not is in fact an medical act (recognized legislatively, by jurisprudence and thus thus received by the courts) and the responsibility for its realization in be allocated thus with the dentist or the denturologist having a legal framework if necessary. The responsibility for the dental technician or prothesist thus takes fine at this time. Its duty of result is only technical and nondental or medical from where the difference. The acts of replacements of teeth are however ideally made by a dentist because it is only (legislatively in France) which can take into account and diagnose the general term and particular teeth and fabrics of support and it is the only one with being able to carry out an ideal replacement by modifying if necessary the teeth or fabrics before the realization of the prosthesis. Moreover it can ensure the follow-up because its prothesist is held to start again work free even if the error is not its fact (bad print, bad color) regardless of the fact that the new intervention nevertheless is invoiced with the patient. Sometimes it should be noted that in France, of many dental prothesists , share the lack of European harmonization, try to be seen qualifying denturologists if he exert their art for the direct benefit of the private individuals. However the dental prothesists are entitled by the legislator only for the realization of the medical devices to measure, more usually called " prostheses dentaires". The law does not enable them however to make profit with the patients tariffs very advantageous which they grant the dental surgeons, not more than of the quality of their services such as they already practice them in the family or public circle “illegally” and without the dental formation and the professional responsibility which results from this. The denturology is an good answer to avoid the confusion of the roles between the dentist (act which should be only medical) and the prothesist (commercial act of a manufacturer)
