Denishawn School

The Denishawn School off Dance hall and Related Arts is a school of founded Danse in 1915 with Los Angeles by Ruth Saint Denis and Ted Shawn. One teaches there the styles and the techniques of dance that the two founders developed, one gives to it a traditional course of ballet practiced barefeet and one also prepares the spectacles presented by the Denishawn Dansers . During sixteen years of its existence, Denishawn School will form a new generation of dancers and choreographers who will be the pioneers of the modern Danse, like Martha Graham, Doris Humphrey, Louis Horst and Charles Weidman.

In 1931, the separation of the couple Shawn-Saint Denis puts an end to the activities of Denishawn.
