Denis Barberet

Denis Barberet (born in 1714 with Arnay-the-Duke, Coast-with Or - died in 1770) was a doctor French scientist, member of several learned societies

Biography

He was born in the middle of the vineyards from Burgundy. He was accepted Médecin with Montpellier and travelled in Italy. In 1743, it is established with Dijon then with Borough-in-Bresse, before exerting as from 1766 with Toulon and in the armies like Médecin of the Navy. It “ had been made known especially by goods reports crowned by various learned societies ” (Larousse of the XIXe century).

It was characterized by its activity to aspire to the academic votes, and its eagerness to answer the ford questions. the learned societies, still in the zeal of their first institution, presented of all shares to the avid spirits of instruction.

He worked even with the academic collection or collection of memories, acts, etc, which was published in Dijon, and wrote the reasoned tables of the first volumes.

  1. Essay on the report/ratio which is between the phenomena of the thunder and those of the electricity , which gained the price with the judgment of the royal Academy of the Humanities, Sciences and Arts . With Bordeaux, at Brown Pierre, 1750. Memory on the electric character of the atmospheric phenomena, which obtained the first price of the Academy of Science of Bordeaux.
  2. Mémoire which gained the price of physics of the year 1761. With the judgment of the Academy of Science, the Humanities and Arts of Lyon. Lyon, Duplain, 1761. Its report rolls on a question: “Which are the causes which make push the Vin? Which are the means of preventing this accident and of curing it, without the quality of the wine becoming harmful with health? ”. One finds there especially observations invaluable on spontaneous deteriorations that the continuation of fermentative work brings each day in the wine, on the means of regulating them, of bâter those which add to its good qualities, to maintain it more the possible for a long time in this state, to prevent, suspend those of these deteriorations which are contrary for him. It is considered it regrettable that current chemical knowledge could not î' light and be used to him to bind all these facts, which are not less invaluable materials for a history of the wine. In addition to the two publications above, one owes him two more works referring to the vine:
    1. Remarks on the culture of the vines of Beaune and places neighbouring , by Mr. the abbot (François) Tainturier, written in Beaune by Mr. Dr. Barberet. This handwritten text was printed and revealed with the public only in the year 2000 of Armançon, Précy-under-Thil.
    2. Memory on the best manner of amending the grounds , price of the Academy of Rouen, divided with the abbot Carro. (1763)
  3. Memory on the epidemic diseases of the cattle , which gained the suggested price by the royal Société of agriculture of the General information of Paris, for the year 1765. Paris, the Widow of Houry, 1766.
  4. Essay on nature and formation of hail , written in 1769 for submission to the Academy of Dijon, undoubtedly because of the frequent weather disturbances to which also allusion the abbot Tainturier makes.
  5. a report crowned by the royal company of agriculture of Paris, in 1765, on the epidemic diseases of the cattle, where one finds also the first germs of a well ordered veterinary medicine, and one of the first tests in this kind, which the doctors, mislaid by prejudices, for the majority had hitherto refused to cultivate.
