Denez Prigent is a Breton singer which interprets Gwerz ioù (laments) and songs to be danced, according to the technique of the Kan ha diskan . It draws its inspiration in the traditional repertory, but the majority of its songs are its own compositions.
Beginnings
Denez Prigent was born February 17th 1966 in the Leon (Finistere north). He discovers very young person the traditional song near his grandmother. Dedication
In 2000, it leaves a new album Irvi (Ways of scum). If electronics is always quite present there, they are above all an album meetings. Denez Prigent invites Bertrand Cantat the singer of Noir Desire, LISA Gerrard the singer of Dead Can Dance as well as the jazzman Louis Sclavis, the viellist Valentine Clastrier and the bell ringer of uilleann pipe Davy Spillane emblematic figure of the Irish music. The song “ Gortoz has ran ” which opens this album will be integrated in the original soundtrack of the film " the Fall of the black falcon " ( Black Hawk Down ) realized by Ridley Scott (Alien, Gladiator, Blade Runner…). After a series in concerts, Denez Prigent records a Live with the Festival Interceltique of Lorient in August 2001 with for guest Bagad de Locoal-Mendon.
Album following, Sarac' H (into Breton, name given to the rustle which the wind in the foliage makes), in 2003 leaves. One finds again there LISA Gerrard but also Yanka Rupkina the soloist of the Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices and singer preferred of Georges Harrison, Karen Matheson of the Capercaillie group (B.O of the film Rob Roy) or the singer sami Mari Boine. Denez Prigent also invites celebrates it player of Bouzouki Donal Lunny, Nabil Khalidi one of the uncontested Masters of the Arab lute and the violonists virtuosos Ronan Pinc and Farhad Bouallagi. Very succeeded and mixing with many subtlety acoustic sounds and magnets, this opus gains a strong success as well near the critics specialized as in the media general public.
