Structure of the population

The country knew an important wave of emigration after independence because of the laws on naturalization unfavorable to the people born in Latvian territory during the Soviet occupation. The purpose of the laws of the autumn 1998 are to make change this tendency into proposing steps simplified with those which want to acquire the Latvian citizenship.
