Mortality strongly decreased between 1950 and 2005 (- 3,9 points), but it slightly increased between 1990 and 2005.

Infantile death rate passed from 80,6 per thousand live births in 1950-1955 to 7,3 in 2000-2005.

The life expectancy improved between 1950 and 2005. Today, it is 78 years to the birth. Cuba nevertheless is exceeded in America by the French West Indies, the United States Virgin Islands, the Costa Rica, Chile and Canada whose life expectancy exceeds 78 years.

Cuba holds the record of suicides in Latin America, as indicate it a report/ratio of the the World Health Organization covering the years 1963 to 1996 and another of the Pan-American Organization of health over the period 2000-2005. During these five years, on average 18,1 annual suicides for 100.000 inhabitants were recorded in Cuba, in front of the 15,9 of the second, Uruguay, and very far from the suicide rate of countries however as not very privileged as Peru (2,3) and Guatemala (1,9).
