Demographic history of Aveyron
The end of the 19th century knew a peak of settlement: 415.826 inhabitants in 1886, but since - and in particular following the war of 1914-1918 and the Rural migration - the department lost very many inhabitants. One estimates at 320.000 the number of aveyronnais of origin in the Paris region. It is it should be noted that a small community aveyronnaise settled with Pigüe in Argentine.
Projections INSEE for this beginning of 21e century confirm this decline: approximately 230.000 inhabitants awaited in 2030.
Moreover the population ages as on the remainder of the national territory. The Population pyramid of Aveyron would precede that of France of 2015: 28% of the population have more than 60 years, 23% less than 20 years.
The big cities located not far from Aveyron (Toulouse, Montpellier, Clermont-Ferrand) attract the young populations and most strongly graduate.
