Structure of the population

Birthrate - Fruitfulness

With a Fertility rate of 6,8 children per woman, Afghanistan is just located in second position in Asia, after Timor-Light (7,0), and before the Yemen (6,2). With Timor share, it is exceeded or equalized in the world only by some countries of sub-Saharan Africa: Niger and Guinea-Bissau (7,1), Angola, Liberia, Somalia and Burundi (6,8 for these 4 countries).

Mortality

According to INED, in 2006, with a rate of 166 ‰, Afghanistan holds the sad Asian record of higher infant mortality, in front of the Eastern Timor (98 ‰) and the Iraq (94 ‰). Worse, it proves that it is the worst score on a world level, in front of the Sierra Leone (158 ‰). A sixth of the babies die thus during their first year (either close to 250  000 babies), and much of older children do not reach the adulthood, nor even puberty.

It is what inflates the death rate general which with 21 ‰, constitutes a very high figure, Asian record also, far in front of the Laos (12 ‰). Afghan death rate is however exceeded on a world level by ten countries of Africa carried out by the Swaziland (29 ‰), the Botswana (27 ‰) and the Lesotho (25 ‰).
