Demographic report/ratio of dependence

The report/ratio (or ratio ) of demographic dependence is defined like the relationship between the Active population (in age to work) and the population in age of inactivity or dependence.

Formulas

There exist several definitions, according to the taking into account of the children and the choice of the age limits:

population from 0 to 14 years + population of more than 64 years _______________________________________________________ X 100 population from 15 to 64 years

population of more than 64 years _______________________________________________________ X 100 population from 15 to 64 years

Limit of this index

  • the opposition between dependant population and active population is not always effective: in the event of Unemployment, of Disability, Work the children, inexistence of retirement…
This index can thus not be valid in certain areas or country.
