Democratic union of work

The democratic Union of work ( UDT ) was a movement gaullist of left, gathering militants of the independence of the Algérie favorable to the Général de Gaulle and close to the Socialists on the economic questions and social.

The most known organizers of the UDT were the deputies Rene Capitant and Louis Vallon. The UDT amalgamated in 1962 with UNR, constituting UNR-UDT. Very hostile with Georges Pompidou, Rene Capitant has one day declared: “The true gaullism is on the left”.

One their objectives was the participation of the workers.

Other gaullists of left: Gilbert Grandval, Philippe Dechartre.

The UDT published Our Republic , which sliced by its behavior and its alacrity with the rare newspapers of the wing " officielle" gaullism like the Nation .

Since the death of the General de Gaulle, several transitory political movements and groupusculaires were constituted under the same name.

In 1965 the UJP was created (Union of the young people for progress), organization of the young gaullists of the UNR which perpetuated the tradition of the gaullism of left.
