Democratic and social convention (Niger)

The democratic and social Convention or CDS-Rahama is a political party native of Niger directed by Mahamane Ousmane.

It was creates in 1991 with the installation of the multi-party system in Niger. It is chaired by Mahamane Ousmane which was democratically elected president of the republic in March 1993.

The divergences between the allies of the CDS, the cohabitation at the top of the State following the legislative elections of January 1995 led to the renversemnt mode by a military junta directed by Ibrahim Baré Maïnassara on January 27th, 1996. This last, which was maintained with the capacity, following the disputed elections of the July 7th and 8th 1996, died following a “unhappy accident”, term used by the putchists directed by Daouda Mallam Wanké on April 9th, 1999.

At the time of the presidential election of the November 16th and December 4th 2004, the candidate of the CDS and old president Mahamane Ousmane obtains 17,4  % of the voices. December 4th take place also of the legislative and there the CDS receives still 17,4  % of the voices is 22 seats of the 113 of the National Assembly native of Niger. Mahamane Ousmane becomes president of the Parliament following an agreement with the National movement of the company of development.
