Dementia praecox

The dementia praecox is a term forged by the Psychiatre Emil Kraepelin to indicate states of disintegration of the personality occurring in young adults.

Kraeplin differentiates:

  • of the overdrawn states , corresponding to the symptoms of Catatonie and Hébéphrénie. These states will become under the feather of Bleuler the Schizophrénie;
  • of the episodes , corresponding to the symptoms of mania and melancholy, which will thereafter be grouped in a maniaco-depressive Psychose.
