Summary

Chapters 1 to 6 describe the events which occurred sixty to eighty years before the arrival of Esdras to Jerusalem: the decree of Cyrus in 537 av. J. - C. and the return of the Jews under Zorobabel. The chapters 7 to 10 show how Esdras went to Jerusalem. With his companions, he fasted and requested to obtain protection. In Jerusalem, they found many Jews who had gone previously to Jerusalem with Zorobabel and had married apart from alliance and had been thus soiled. Esdras requested for them and made them contract alliance to divorce. The remainder of the history of Esdras is in the book of Néhémie.
