The Golden delicious is a very popular Pomme yellow in the whole world. In France, it is the most cultivated apple since it represents more than one third of the national production. Commonly called " the golden" , its success comes from its capacity to answer the taste of the consumers, with the requirements of the production and the modern trade. The gastronomes often reproaches him his lack of taste and its strong water content.
Origin
In 1890, Virginia of the West, a " sowing chanceux" this initially named variety " gave rise to; Mullin' S Yellow Seedling" and in 1914, one gave him the name of Golden delicious delicious.
Culture
Of semi-set up port, and type III (fructification on young branch from one to three year), the apple tree “Golden delicious” is Diploïde. It is early for the setting with fruit and gives an abundant production each year if it were indeed cleared up as a preliminary. Of easy culture, it requires however for at least 1000 hours of winter cold, which limits its culture in certain hot countries even if it adapts well to the dryness.Golden Delicious is fairly sensitive to the Tavelure of the apple tree. Variety with glabrous sheets, this cultivar is less prone to the Oïdium than those with pubescent sheets (Jonathan).
It is pollinated by the following varieties: Akane, Blackjon, Cox' S Orange, Elstar, Granny Smith, Gloster, Idared, James Grieve, Jonathan, Mac Intosh, Melrose, Apple bell, Queen of the Rennets, Rennet tramp, Richared, Starking delicious and Starkimson.
The Golden delicious collects in September and consumes October at April.
The Semis of Pépin of “Golden delicious delicious” are considered to inherit the precocity of setting with fruit of this variety.
