Dejima (出島) is a artificial island in bay of Nagasaki. It was the place where the Dutch traded with the Japan board of 1641 with 1853. For this period, the foreigners other than the Netherlanders did not have the right to trade with the Japan, and the Netherlanders with the Japan did not have the right to leave Dejima. Dejima, which was isolated from the grounds, was surrounded little by little by grounds gained on the sea; but there exists currently a project of restoration, which includes/understands the rebuilding of the buildings as well as the reconstitution of the island itself.

Dejima is sometimes also written Deshima . ( shima means island in Japanese and changes phonetically in - jima).
