Deheubarth

The Deheubarth was a kingdom of the south-west of the Wales ( deheu means " sud"). It was creates by Howell the Good (" Hywell Dda") towards 950 when it took possession of the Seisyllwg and of the Dyfed. It covered at the time Dyfed, the Ceredigion and Ystrad Towi.

Deheubarth survived one moment the conquest Norman of Wales (the Norman ones managed to take possession of Deheuberth as of 1093) then his importance decreased more and more while it was made invade by English and absorb by the Gwynedd. Deheubarth disappeared as a kingdom in 1234, although descendants of the royal family scour the authorization to reign on Cantref Mawr and Ystrad Towi until in 1283.

The most famous kings of Deheubarth were Rhys ap Tewdwr, his/her son Gruffydd ap Rhys and its grandson Rhys ap Gruffydd (" The Rhys" Lord;).

From 1234, princes de Deheubarth do not reign any more that on Cantref Mawr and do not have any more true authority.
