Degeneration (physical)

In Quantum physics, the degeneration is the fact for several quantum states distinct of finding itself on the same energy level.

The phenomenon is due most of the time to a symmetry between the states. The crack external or spontaneous of symmetry raises the degeneration. The Effect Zeeman or the fine structure of the atomic spectrum is examples of lifting of degeneration.
