A decade is, by definition, a group of ten Année S. the term derives from the words Latin S of decem “ten” and annus “year.
The decade term can be used indifferently to identify the ten last years: “The last decade saw the emergence of Internet”; or to limit one ten years period: “the decade xyz (Head of State whose mandate lasted 10 years) was marked by a phase of expansion”; or to indicate one ten years period in chronology: “the decade of the years 1920 is called the Mad years ”.
UNO devotes certain decades to a topic. Thus the Decade 2001-2010 was declared " international Decade for the promotion of a culture of non-violence and peace with the profit of the children of the world ".
Certain purists dispute the use of the term Décade in synonym of decade, but this use is however quite correct in French. One will have however always to specify clearly that the decade relates to well a group of ten years, in a standard series year, decade, century, for example, and to prohibit his use in the event of possible confusion. Decade means “group of ten indeed” and, with use, it is sometimes difficult to know if one speaks ten days or ten years. It is also necessary to mention the influence of the English word decade which means one ten years period.
