Deauville is a common department of the Calvados, in the area Basse-Normandie, in France.
Its inhabitants are called Deauvillais (be).
Presentation
With its Casino of Deauville, its racecourses, its port, its marina, its center of congress, its villas its hotels and its discotheques, Deauville east one of the most famous beaches Normans. It is often associated with its opposite Trouville-on-Sea, its chief town of canton, on the other side of the river the Touques.
The village called first of all “Dosville” was laid out around the St. Lawrence church, of which the oldest part would go back to the 12th century. In 1850, there was ten farms, 26 houses, and a hundred inhabitants who lived agriculture and breeding. Trouville, its neighbor, was a village of fishermen. The marshes, located below the village and on which was going to be built future Deauville, were used to make feed the cows and the sheep.

- Be 1858: The duke of Morny, half-brother of Napoleon III, was invited to Trouville-on-Sea by its doctor, the Doctor Oliffe which directed the living room of the Casino of Trouville-on-Sea. Morny seizes opportunity of exploiting this shore of sand and marsh, to create at this place the town of Deauville. Thus was formed an association of men come from horizons different, of which the goal was, according to the same words from Morny, to create “the kingdom of elegance”.
At the sides of Morny and Dr. Oliffe, one also found Anatole Demidoff, prince de San Donato, husband of the princess Mathilde, Mr. Donon, a Parisian, directing banker of the Othoman Banque, which could find the required funds with the operation, and Mr. Breney, a Parisian architect inspired by the Baron Haussmann, which drew up the plans of the future city and became the first mayor of large Deauville - In 1860, the real estate company consisted these men repurchased with the commune the marshes for the sum of 800.000 francs gold. in four years, 1860 to 1864, “Deauville sands”

- 1989: creation of the musical festival Swing in Deauville
- 1992: inauguration of the International Center of Deauville (CID), the new palate of the congresses
- 1997: creation of the Festival of Music of Easter
- 1999: creation of the Festival of Asian film
- 2001: Philippe Augier succeeds Anne d' Ornano with the Town hall of Deauville
- 2002: restoration of the place of the Market and the Tourist office. Creation of Musical August (musical campus of the young musicians), in the concerts of winter and the cultural programming of Deauville at the year
- 2003 : first meeting of winter on the hippodrome of Deauville it Drums. From December 2003 to January 2004, the calendar of the races is supplemented of ten additional meetings, thanks to the creation of a special sand fiber track and is oiled which can be used all the year. Deauville engages in a step of safeguard of its environment by creating a Protection zone of the Architectural Heritage, Urbain and Paysager (ZPPAUP).
