Deathray
Deathray is an American rock group originating in Sacramento in particular implying a certain number of former members of the group Cake of which Greg Brown and Victor Damiani.
History
The creation of Deathray is closely related to the course of another rock group of Sacramento: Cake. After the exit of their second album, Fashion Nugget , the group meets an important success, in particular with the individual one the The Distance written by Brown. However Brown feeling eclipse by the singer John McCrea decides to just like leave the group the bass player Victor Damiani in 1997, little before the recording of Prolonging the Magic .
In 1999, Brown and Damiani meet Dana Gumbiner which occurs then in solo under several names of which The Microauts in Sacramento. The three musicians recruit the beater James Neil and the inputter max Binder. The new group baptizes Deathray and starts to compose. The group records maximum demonstrations and manages to sell 5000 copies of them before signing at Capricorn Records.
Their first album éponyme is produced by Eric Valentine in 2000. Whereas the album receives good a critical reception, the group must face the bankruptcy of their recording company and a national round which knows big problems of organization. After rough negotiations, Deathray leaves Capricorn but remains owner of the masters of their album which they will republish under their new label Doppler Records.
A little later max Binder leaves the group to found its own training, The High Speed Scene. Then is with the turn of the beater James Neil to give up the formation. It will be to replace by another former member of Cake, Todd Roper.
In 2002, the group leaves maximum, White Sleeves , which attracts itself good criticisms. Deathray leaves its second album studio, Believe Me in 2005.
