Mystery the “without name” , commonly called “Death” , is the thirteenth chart of the Tarot of Marseilles.
Description and symbolism
The figure 13 associated with visual funeral only suffices for him so that one allots to this mystery the name of “Death”. This impression can be reinforced by the fact that the thirteenth letter of the alphabet is Mr. Pourtant, this chart is among the 22 major mysteries not to only bear a name. Indeed, in symbolic system, to name is to give life.
In Numerology, XIII with the same value as IV. This mystery is thus related to the Empereur (symbol of the matter) and means that the tangible properties are not eternal.
“Death” does not save anybody: even the crowned heads which rest on a black ground cannot escape from it. The red color of the cutting part of the Faux testifies to an intense activity.
The principle even scythe is to put at ground the grasses which too much pushed in order to leave room to the smaller plants. It is a regulator of the evolution which imposes a return to the ground, origin of the plants. However, this return is not an end. Indeed, the Spinal column of the reaper resembles a corn ear. It is the symbol of the Réincarnation: from a mown ear can be born several other ears. Thus, the message transmitted by this mystery is that of an end which will go towards a revival.
