Death is a group of Death founded metal originating in the the United States in 1983 by Chuck Schuldiner. The group is one of the pioneers of this musical genre, the term even of death metal was introduced by the fans of the group to identify the music of Death.

Chuck Schuldiner was more than the leader of Death, it was Death and forever hesitated to modify the composition of the group to adapt it to his musical desires. The members of Death thus only very seldom played on several albums and none played on more than two.

The death of Chuck Schuldiner, on December 13rd, 2001, of the continuations of a brain tumor inoperable, put a final term at the careers of Death and different sound project, Control Denied.

Biography

Chuck Schuldiner first of all founded Mantas in 1983 with the guitarist Rick Rozz and the beater Barney " Kam" Lee. This group records two demonstrations, then separates in 1984 because of internal confusion to the group.

Shortly after Chuck decided to found Death being reconciled with Rick and Kam. They recorded two other demonstrations before Chuck does not decide to integrate into the group the bass player Scott Carlson and the guitarist Matt Olivio coming from the group Repulsion transfering Rick thus. But shortly after Kam left the group, leaving it without beater. After several months of research without success Scott and Matt left the group.

There Chuck left then to San Francisco in September 1985 recruiting low the beater Eric Brecht, ex-member of D.R.I. They had in the idea to create the fastest group having ever existed. However Chuck realized that did not allow the richness of the style suitable for Death , thus it returned in Florida, only.

At this point in time shortly after (in January 1986) it was called by a group of Thrash Metal of Toronto named Slaughter . This one proposed to him to join the group whereas they were going to record their Strappado album. Initially although filled with enthusiasm to the idea to belong to a true group, it quickly realized that it was to play according to its ideas and could not follow a leader.

Chuck thus returned to San Francisco and met a promising beater: Chris Reifert. They recorded a new demonstration in April 1986 entitled " Mutilation". This demonstration was a success and Combat Records proposed to them to record several albums. In July Chuck and Chris thus worked on their first album but because of engineering problems, they recorded only some titles and the project was moved with Hollywood in Music Grinder studios. Then associated to the producer Randy Burns, the group spent only a few days in studio letting Randy mix the album.

They met during this time the young guitarist California N John Hand. But this one did not remain a long time in the group (however it is reproduced on the small pocket of the first album). The first album Scream Bloody Gore left in 1987 was a great success, at this time there Chuck joined the Massacre group in Florida. That enabled them to carry out many concerts. The group left then 3 new titles, then entered in studio (Morrisound studios in Tampa) in April 1988 to record its second album " Leprosy" under the direction of Don Johnson.
