Dear Prudence
Dear Prudence is a Chanson Beatles which is reproduced on the album The Beatles, white Album (1968). She is written by John Lennon (although she is credited Lennon/McCartney).
She is made up in March 1968 with Rishikesh in India, in the Ashram of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The text speaks about the sister of Mia Farrow, fore-mentioned Prudence, which is locked up all the day in its room to meditate. For the music, John uses the technique of the arpeggio S that Donovan teaches to him over there.
The song is recorded the 28 and August 29th 1968 with the Trident studios with London, and is mixed the 30. In the absence of Ringo Starr, it is Paul McCartney which plays of the battery.
It was taken again by Siouxsie and the Banshees on its album Hyæna and was published into individual in 1983. This version was classified with the 3ère place of the British Hit-parade.
It was also taken again by Jerry Garcia, Jaco Pastorius, Larry Graham, Alanis Morissette and Our Lady Peace, inter alia.
