De facto
De facto was a group of experimental Dub composed of Cedric Bixler Zavala (At the drive-in, The Mars Volta), Omar Rodriguez-Lopez (At the drive-in, The Mars Volta), Isaiah Ikey Owens (The Mars Volta), and Jeremy Michael Ward.
The group of origin was consitué of Omar, Cedric and Jeremy, who gave concerts around their city, El Paso (Texas). The group was called then The Sphinktators and told Omar with the song, Cedric with low, Jeremy with the guitar and Ralph Jasso with the battery. After their first recording, they chose, by a Brainstorming, the name De facto Framework' Dub , which they curtailed later with De facto . Did this recording become How Do You Dub? You Fight For Dub, You Plug Dub In , that they carried out at Headquarter Records, now called Restart Records. Omar met Ikey with a concert of hip-hop, they exchanged their numbers, and thus Ikey joined the group during one in its concerts and became their clavierist.
Their following album, Megaton Shotblast , was carried out on the label Gold Standard Laboratories, and partly accepted an immediate success, probably due to the popularity of At the drive-in, then group of Cedric and Omar. The general style of the group was the instrumental dub, but it was also influenced by the Electronica, the Salsa, and the Jazz. These new ideas led to what was going to become their next group.
When the members of At the drive-in separated, De facto became The Mars Volta with Eva Gardner with low and Jon Theodore with the battery.
A possible reformation of De facto now far from probable, because of died of Jeremy Ward in June 2003. Omar Rodriguez-Lopez is also very occupied with The Mars parallel Volta, but also her projects, as well in solo as with John Frusciante and Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
