De Beers is a South-African company specialized in research, the size and the marketing of the Diamant S. It is the most important company of the sector.
History
De Beers was created in 1888 by Cecil Rhodos.In August 2004, its principal shareholder is the Famille Oppenheimer.
In October 2005, it decided to yield part of its activities to a African holding established in South Africa.
Criticisms
De Beers is very criticized for its policy with certain states, in particular of Africa.Thus it would have encouraged the government of the Botswana to make pressures on the Bochimans for the exproprier, so that it can exploit the diamond reserves present in their territories.
De Beers is also criticized about the traffic of Diamants of conflicts, a traffic of diamonds which is in particular at the origin of the Civil war of Sierra Leone.
After the defections of the Mannequin S Iman Bowie and Erin O' Connor in 2004, it is Lily Cole which announces in 2005 not to make photographs for this firm more.
