The Dayton Rens , so known under the name of New York Rebirth or NY Rens , were an American team of Basket-ball evolving/moving in National Basketball League for the season 1948-1949. Based in the town of Dayton (Ohio), the team is especially known to have always been made up exclusively of black players, at one time or the barrier of the skin color had not been broken in the Nord-américains championships.

History

New York Rebirth

the New York Renaissance was created in 1922 is a few years before the Harlem Globetrotters. The name refers to the Renaissance of Harlem, whose casino will be used as ground. The team would traverse the roads through the country in order to play of the matches, discrimination preventing them from joining a professional league.

In the years 1920 and 1930 Rens was however one of best country. The season 1932-1933 has a éloquant assessment: 112 victories and only 8 defeats, including 88 victories of sharp. These performances their make it possible to take part in the World Professional Basketball Tournament of Chicago in 1939 where they override the Oshkosh All-Stars, 34-25, becoming the first black team to gain this type of matches.

Dayton Rens

In December 1948 the Wandering Detroit Kings stop their activities in the middle of the season of National Basketball League. Rens are then accommodated to replace them, and consequently move occasion with Dayton. The National Basketball Association will be able to underline this besides by honouring the New York/Dayton Rens with an entry in NBA Basketball Hall off Famed in 1963.
