The translation of the first French edition of February 1997 comprises an important modification of the text on the second box of board 10: the two pilots are relieved to learn that the ejected passenger of the plane had paid his ticket well rather than to have itself if he survived. This text little adapted for the young majority assistantship of this history, is modified in the 2nd edition of January 2006 to follow the english language version literally: they are relieved to learn that it is Gontran and that its chance will save it.
References to Carl Barks
The opposition enters the bad luck of Donald and the chance of Gontran dates from the first appearances of Gontran Bonheur, character created by Carl Barks in January 1948. Don Rosa takes again the topic of the quasi-permanent confrontation of the two cousins: it started as of their childhood and continues in Jour of bad luck until in the search of this miraculous chance.
This history in the work of Gift Rosa
Don Rosa tells in this history the origin of the bad luck of Gontran the day of its birthday using an evocation of the past. It thus takes again several Duck family members whom it used in the Youth of Picsou , the biography of Balthazar Picsou:- Joseph Duck the husband of Grandmother Donald,
- their daughter Daphnée mother of Gontran (and whose birthday is the same day as that of his/her son),
- a usual scene of argument between their son Rodolphe and his wife Hortense Picsou, parents of Donald.
Historical and cultural references
The English title The Sign off the Triple Distelfink refers in the history with a drawing painted by a workman on the barn of Ducks the day of the birth of their Daphnée daughter. It represents three birds gilded around a flower. A distelfink is a yellow Chardonneret stylized used like signs chance among the German immigrants of Pennsylvania.
