David Weiss

David Weiss is a Swiss artist, who lives with Zurich. It was born there in 1946.

He attended the school of applied arts of Zurich, then was interested in the sculpture with Basle. He exposed in several galleries (Stähli Gallery of Zurich, Galerie Gugu Ernesto of Cologne and Galerie you Venster of Rotterdam).

In 1979, it begins its collaboration with Peter Fischli. As of their collaboration, the two artists will have fun to present objects of the more banals in even strange strange situations.

As of the Eighties, they are interested in the video. In their works, one observes a close relation between chaos and the order. Among works which they carried out one can quote:

  • Der Rechte Weg, 16 mm, 1983 (Studienprämie EDI)
  • Der Lauf der Dinge, 16 mm, 1987 (Studienprämie EDI)

The November 16th 2006, David Weiss and Peter Fischli were rewarded for their common career by receiving the price for the Foundation Roswitha Haftmann, artistic reward most richly equipped in Europe (1120 000 CHF, are approximately 78.000 €).
