David Rizzio

David Rizzio (death in 1566) was the private secretary of Marie Stuart. Native of Turin, he was the son of a ménétrier, and was brought in Scotland by the ambassador of Savoy.

He was ugly and uneven, but it was a gracious singer, a spiritual courtier, and he could gain the good graces of the queen, who took it for secretary.

Henri Darnley, second husband of Marie Stuart, conceived jealousy of it and made it cut the throat of on March 9th, 1566 with the Palais of Holyrood in the apartment and under the same eyes of its wife, then pregnant of Jacques VI. Marie avenged her death by that several for the assassins.
