General of the Armed American, David Petraeus was born the November 7th 1952.

Engaged in the US Army in 1974 after its exit of the Military academy of West Point where it followed a formation of Infanterie, it in particular directed the 101ème airborne division during its offensive on Baghdad in spring 2003, then its mission of occupation of the north of the Iraq until February 2004. Charged creating and with organizing the Iraqi forces between 2004 and 2005, it then directed U.S. Army Combined Arms Center to Fort Leavenworth.

Whereas it had returned to the United States to rewrite the handbook of against-insurrection of the American army, it is named by George W. Bush the January 5th 2007 to succeed the general George Casey as commander of the troops on the ground in Iraq. It took its functions the February 10th.
