David Mankaba
David Mankaba is a Zimbabwean musician (1959 - June 27th 1991), first known personality of its country to publicly admitting being sick AIDS; it deliberately broke the taboo which surrounds this serious disease and which afflicts with the thousands of Zimbabweans in order to draw the attention of the whole world to the problem of the AIDS in Africa. Mankaba played of low for the Bhundu Boys, an orchestra of five musicians which popularized the African Pop music in Great Britain and North America at the end of the years 1980 known for their single style of percussions at the known fast rate/rhythm under the name of “Jit” or “jit-jive”. Member of the tribe of the Ndebele of Bulawayo, he was the only member non-Shona group. With beginning of the year 80, Bhundu Boys developed their musical style coming from traditional songs or dances from the people Shona. They had several great success in Zimbabwe, and in 1986, made a round in Great Britain, without instruments, nor money or contracts, however, thanks to the spectacles presented in cabarets they quickly became known on the English scenes. Their album Shabini rose in signal 10 of English Billboard and the group could join the round Madonna at the time of her concert in Wembley Stadium. He dies in Harare on June 27th, 1991.
