David Beaton , 1494, - 1547, archbishop of Saint Andrews in Scotland, pertaining to the family of the counts of Fife. He was nephew of James Beaton. He was one of the most dedicated antagonists of the Réforme in Scotland. Jacques V of Scotland entrusted the seals to him and charged it with important missions: it is him which negotiated the marriage of this prince, initially with Madeleine de France, girl of François Ier (1533), then with Marie of Lorraine (1538). It was named cardinal the same year. After the death of the king (1542), he became chancellor of the young queen Marie Stuart. He exerted under his name the authority with much of rigor, drove out John Knox Université of Saint-Andrews, made burn several Hérétique S and perishes assassinated (1547).
