David B.

David B. , of its true name Pierre-François Beauchard (born the February 9th 1959 with Nimes) is a Dessinateur and Scénariste French of Cartoon. It is one of the representatives of what one calls the “new cartoon”.

Biography

After having studied with the university of the applied arts Duperré to Paris, David B. started to work in the field of the cartoon in 1985 ( Pas of samba for captain Tonnerre ); he scénarisa and drew stories in many magazines, like Okapi , (TO BE FOLLOWED) , Tintin Reporter and Chic . Its black and white original style was in particular influenced by George Pichard and Jacques Tardi.

It took part in 1990 in the foundation of Association, independent editor French cartoons. Its work was published in Lapin , the magazine of Association. The majority of its publications of the Nineties were gathered in the pale Horse and the Incidents of the night .

Between 1996 and 2003, it created the Rise of the High Evil , an autobiographical series of 6 tome cheeses devoted in particular to the disease of his/her older brother and regarded as one of the largest masterpieces of the modern cartoon, as prove it the multiple nominations of this series to the Festival of Angouleme: in 2000, volume 4 accepted the Alph' art of the best scenario and in 1998 and 2004, volumes 2 and 6 were nominated for the Prix of the best album. It gained, with the 6th volume, the International prize of the Town of Geneva in 2003.

Since 1997, it published in other editors that the Association (from which it separated with crash in 2005) and worked with other authors like Joann Sfar, Christophe Blain or Emmanuel Guibert.

The topic of death is very present in the whole of its work. David B. explains it by his childhood marked by the epileptic fits of his brother (central theme of the series the the Rise of the High Evil ); each crisis was lived like a small death.
