Dave Wottle

David James (" Dave") Wottle , born the August 7th 1950 with Canton (Ohio), is old a American Athlète , Olympic champion.

Dave Wottle is certainly more known to carry a Casquette of golf at the time of its race S than for its exploits on the track.

Studying with the Bowling Green State University , Wottle finished second derrère Marty Liquori on the mile with the championships NCAA of 1970. Two years later, it gained the title over 1.500 m then over the mile the following year.

In 1972, at the time of the trials , it equalized the world records of the 800 Mr. In series, semi-final and finally in the finale of the 800 m of the Olympic Games of summer of 1972 with Munich, it used a rare tactic. It remained in back of the pack during 600 m, then went up the other competitors one by one. It gains the title with three hundredths in advance over the Soviet Yevgeni Arzhanov.

At the time of the ceremony of the medals, Wottle forgot to remove its cap. This gesture was interpreted by certain as a sign of protest but Wottle was excused some thereafter. It also contributed on 1.500 m but did not qualify itself for the final.
