Dave Murray
David Michael " MoonFace" Murray , born parents Scot and Irish the December 23rd 1956 with Edmonton (London, England). It is one of the three Guitariste S of the group of heavy metal Iron Maiden. It is, with Steve Harris, more the former member of the group.
Dave Murray is born in a poor family; his/her father is handicapped and his mother cleaning lady. Fan of the football club of Tottenham, it is also impassioned by the music. It is, inter alia, with the listening of the famous piece Voodoo Chile of Jimi Hendrix which it puts at the guitar. He makes his beginnings with his friend of childhood Adrian Smith in the group Evil Ways (1972 - 1974), then becomes member first once of Iron Maiden a few months in 1976, after having played inter alia Prowler during a crashing to pieces hearing. He leaves it on the requirement of the singer of then Dennis Wilcock. Dave turns over with the former members of Evil Ways, who meanwhile formed Urchin. In 1977, it returns definitively to Iron Maiden, still unknown group and takes share with the recording of their demonstration, famous the Soundhouse Tapes , then first album with which success comes.
It is him which in 1980 requests Adrian Smith to replace Dennis Stratton and to join the group. Their two complementary plays of guitar are one of the elements of “its characteristic Maiden”, developed for example in Hallowed Be Thy Name . The cross harmonizations and solos abound in all the career with the group. If its compositions with Steve Harris are appreciated, they are rare: Murray is, with the beater, the least prolific type-setter of the group (Steve Harris being it more…). Dave Murray has a play of guitar very hardware blues, whereas Adrian Smith is more hard rock; finally, Janick Gers has a play which one describes as Shred.
Dave Murray is due enormously to a guitar Stratocaster having belonged to Paul Kossoff of the group Free. It made its instrument fetish of it.
It uses mainly of Stratocaster (Fender or of copies ESP) of which it replaces the microphones for of Seymour Duncan Hot Rails and JB Bridge with high level of exit. Side amplifiers, it is Marshall on all the floors. Not very fond of delicacies effects (except light a Chorus often employed), it have however a Rack designed by the famous Londoner Peter Cornish.
