Dave Cooper
Dave Cooper (born the November 7th 1967 with Shelburne) is an author of cartoons and Canadian painter of English expression.
Biography
Between 1981 and 1987, the sales of the small editors know an enormous growth in Canada. To avoid the request, the publisher Aircel urges any person likely to hold a pencil; at thirteen years, Dave Cooper belongs to the elected officials. The young draftsman works during a few years on several titles of superman and passes beside the movement of the autoédition carried out by Canadian authors such Chester Brown ( Yummy Fur ) and Julie Doucet ( Dirty Plotte ). It is only with the beginning of the year 1990 that Dave Cooper discovers works of Robert Crumb, Joe Matt, Daniel Clowes, Peter Bagge but especially the album ED The Happy Clown of Chester Brown. This cartoon opens the eyes on the possibilities of the medium and influence to him strongly her first baptized graphic novels Suckle (1996) and Crumple (2000).In parallel, he works at Dark Horse where he draws accounts of Grendel , Hellboy Junior , Mask or Godzilla . It is in this same editor that Dave Cooper is tested in 1998 with the autobiography through the account daN & Larry . It evokes in this dark history where memories and phantasms mix the sexual harassment which a person in charge of Aircel made him undergo whereas it was still adolescent.
In August 1999, Dave Cooper reaches a new stage in its creative course by publishing the first number of its series Weasel at Fantagraphics Books. Each number of this series is composed of short chapters of eclectic projects. The Encyclopedia Nonsensica côtoie the episodes vaudevillesques of Eddy Counts there and those much more realistic of Ripple: With Predilection for Tina . This last project, republished in the form of graphic novel by Fantagraphics, ensures a great recognition to him. The success of a book of art dedicated to its fabrics however pushes it to launch out in very an other way. Dave Cooper is devoted today entirely to painting, the design of toys and the books for children. The Festival of Angouleme dedicated an exposure in 2005 to him.
