Datça

Located in the province of Muğla in Turkey, halfway along the Peninsula of the same name, Datça is a town of 5.000 inhabitants the winter but whose population exceeds several tens of thousands of inhabitants the summer. Datça is located on the the Mediterranean, between the town of Marmaris and the ancient site of Cnide and is the chief town of ten villages strewn along the peninsula, among which Mesudiye and Palamutbükü is of notoriety tourist.

Small village of fishermen until a close past, the main activity of the city today is tourism served by many restaurants, hotels and jewelleries. The port of Datça accommodates the sailing ships and motor boats of the tourists and has many Goélette S (traditional boats out of wooden) which remains with quay for the year.

The charm of this city appears particularly around the port, on the frontage opposed to this one where the lake is whose water is beneficial as well as the municipal garden beside the Tropicana , a place of reference for in love ones with Datça.

The port ferry of Datça is located on the Aegean part of the peninsula, with 10km of Datça city, Körmen; there is up to 4 ferries per day in season to join Bodrum.

Datça is also an input port for Turkey, the boats coming from Greece for example Symi or Rhodos, must be presented initially to Datça before being able to accost with moreover small towns without customs office.

Datça is a city with very economic strong growth: in 2005, more than 500 new buildings were built there. Datça is composed of three separate principal parts of a distance of approximately two kilometers:

  • Eski-Datça (the Old Datça )
  • İskele (the quay)
  • Reşadiye , named in the honor of the last but one sultan of the Ottoman Empire at the beginning of the 20th century, Mehmed V Reşad. It had given its name to the sub-prefecture and the peninsula until 1947, before the preceding name is not readopted. There remains always possible to see the peninsula mentioned under the name of Reşadiye in certain maritime charts.

Reşadiye is known for its factory of Olive oil and its museum of the Turkish Tapis or Kilim.
