Dassault Aviation is an aeronautical manufacturer based in France. He builds especially military aircrafts but also of business. He was founded by Marcel Dassault and is currently directed by Charles Edelstenne.
In the jets of top-of-the-range businesses, Dassault Aviation occupies a position of leader in 2005 with a market share of 40 %, its two competitors, the American Gulfstream (General Dynamics) and the Canadian Bomber dividing the remainder.
Following the nationalization of the aeronautical companies, the factories of Marcel Bloch were integrated into the National company of aeronautical Engineerings of South-west (SNCASO) . Having his research department freely, Marcel Bloch creates the December 12th 1936 by gathering his means the Public limit company of the Planes Marcel Bloch (SAAMB) with an aim of designing and of constructing prototypes which will be manufactured by the nationalized companies. But independence will not last. February 17th, 1937, the Ministry for the Air integrates the research department into SNCASO .
During the Second world war, Marcel Bloch is stopped, regarded as dangerous for national defense and public safety . The occupants will vainly seek to obtain his collaboration, which he will refuse being based on his fragile health. During this time, his/her collaborators undertake to preserve to the maximum the interests of the Public limit company of the Planes Marcel Bloch (SAAMB) . Off-set with the camp of Buchenwald on August 17th, 1944, it will miss being hung while refusing once again to collaborate. They will be Communist militants who will save the life in substituent to him his number with that of a death. It will be released from it on April 11th, 1945.
The French aircraft industry evil in point in 1945, Marcel Bloch integrates into the SAAMB the factories of Saint-Cloud, Boulogne and Talence. November 10th, 1945, the shareholders adapt it to his new operation by transforming it into a Limited liability company which will be called Société of the Planes Marcel Bloch . He creates subsidiary companies to facilitate the management of the company: December 6th, 1945, the factory of Saint-Cloud will be the Société of the Engines and Propellers Marcel Bloch which will become on September 12th, 1945, Saint-Cloud Planes Marcel Bloch . In the same way, the same day, the companies Boulogne Avions Marcel Bloch (with Boulogne-Billancourt) are made up and Talence Avions Marcel Bloch with Talence.
Marcel Bloch changes later his name into Marcel Dassault, this patronym having been, during the war, the pseudonym of his Paul brother, one of the chiefs of Resistance. Also the Société of the Planes Marcel Bloch becomes the Société of the Planes Marcel Dassault the December 20th 1947.
The May 9th, 1949 , the Board of directors of the Société Talence Avions Marcel Dassault decides to open a factory on the aerodrome of Mérignac for the assembly and in-flight tests of the Flamingo. It is especially to prevent a possible closing of the factory of Talence, located downtown. Indeed, it is the will of the Ministry for the Air of the time. Consequently occasion, Talence Avions Marcel Dassault becomes Mérignac Avions Marcel Dassault .
February 22nd, 1950, Colonel Auguste the Reverend is named manager managing director of the three subsidiary companies. That answers at the request of Marcel Dassault who wishes to present himself to the legislative elections. He preserves the technical and industrial direction as a consulting engineer.
Continuing its policy of creation of subsidiary companies corresponding to their geographical presence, it creates the Société Villaroche Air base Marcel Dassault . Its management is entrusted by it to Auguste the Reverend and the direction with Pierre Robert. It manufactures elements of planes but especially carries out the development of the prototypes for the account of Saint-Cloud Planes Marcel Dassault .
June 27th, 1952, the Board of directors of the Société Villaroche Air base Marcel Dassault decides to amalgamate with Saint-Cloud Planes Marcel Dassault .
The Société of the Planes Marcel Dassault specializes. In 1953, the Department Engines east creates. The following year, it is the Electronic Department which settles in Argenteuil.
January 1st, 1956, the Générale Aeronautics Marcel Dassault (GAMD) is created by joining together the three companies Mérignac Avions Marcel Dassault , Boulogne Avions Marcel Dassault and Saint-Cloud Planes Marcel Dassault under the aegis of the latter.
In 1957, the Department Machines for the study of air-to-surface missiles and ground-to-ground is created.
The co-operation of South-Aviation with General Aeronautics Marcel Dassault (GAMD) started before continues in the Sixties for civil aircrafts (Super-Caravel, Mercure) and soldiers (Balzac, Mirage III V, Spirale). That is reiterated with the Harmony, with British Aircraft Corporation and South-Aviation.
The Department of the Sales abroad which is in charge with the prospection and the sale, is reorganized on April 26th, 1961, separating the two activities in a distinct way.
The electronic activity of Dassault being developed much, it becomes the Center of studies and of electronic research (CEREL) and settles with St Cloud. March 31st, 1962, it changes statute to be a limited liability company, Electronique Marcel Dassault, then, on January 28th, 1963, a Public limit company by keeping the same name. In 1962, a new industrial unit is created in Argonnex (called since Argonay).
In 1965, Marcel Dassault decides to change company name: the name of General Aeronautics Marcel Dassault does not reflect any more the activity of the company because of the departure of the Electronic Department. It thus returns from there to its name of origin: Company of the Planes Marcel Dassault.
June 27th, 1967, the Company repurchases Breguet Aviation which keeps its legal individuality, technical, industrial and commercial. Its research department works with that of Dassault but it preserves its homogeneity. As from on April 1st, 1971, the two companies approach outcome with a fusion. It will be approved on December 14th, 1971 (with retroactive effect at January 1st, 1971). Company name is also modified in Avions Marcel Dassault-Breguet Aviation (AMD-BA) .
Finally, the company adopts the name Dassault Aviation in 1990.
