Dartmoor (equine race)
The pony Dartmoor is one of the 9 principal races of Poney S British.
It is originating in the moors of the Dartmoor, where ponies still today are found, but often of small size and poor quality. The pony autoctone was improved by Arab contribution of blood, thanks to the standard Dwarla, of which the grandson was Jude, the most famous Dartmoor standard.
Physically, Dartmoor is a pony of intermediate size (up to 1,27 m), which is appropriate of this fact well to the children. It is able to easily carry an adult up to 75 kg, which makes it possible to bring it to an high level of raising. It is a pony considered as elegant, with legs of very good quality: the slope of the pasterns is often perfect. The hairs are abundant, the head small, very pretty, is racée, with large eyes and a broad face, the ears are tiny.
The dartmoor is a good pony of sport. He excels in many disciplines: obstacle, raising, cross-country race, attachment, equestrian Excursion,… crossings with horses (Thorough-bred, Hunter,…) give remanquables results.
