Darknet
A network darknet is a virtual private Network in which its users connect themselves only to trustworthy persons. Most of the time, these networks are of small size, often with less than ten users each one. A darknet can be created by any type of anybody and for any objective, but the technique is generally used specifically to create networks of File-sharing.
Origin
The origin of the term darknet comes from an article written in 2002 by Peter Biddle, Paul England, Marcus Peinado and Bryan Willmann, four employees of Microsoft: The Darknet and the Future off Content Distribution . The article indicates that the presence of darknets was the principal obstacle with the development of technologies DRM. The term has had for summer re-used in the media, for example The Economist , Wired magazine and Rolling Stone ; it is also the title of a work of J.D. Lasica.
Applications
When it is used to describe a network of file-sharing, the expression “network darknet” is synonymous with “network of Ami to friend”: both describe networks where the computers of the users divide files only with the friends of confidence. The most widespread software darknet probably is WASTE of Nullsoft, and freenet. The current version of freenet, unlike the usual darknets, is able to support million users potentially.
The first versions of the software ITunes of Apple authorized the users to assign an address IP of a distant network and to thus share their music with the other users of the network. The most recent versions decontaminate this functionality, but still authorize the users with “streamer” the music in their clean networks; software as OurTunes allows to the users same network iTunes to download the music of another user without loss of quality.
The video game Tom Clancy' S Splinter Concealment: Chaos Theory mentions concept of network darknet without wire which uses frequencies not standards in order to make more difficult the interception of any signal.
