Comments

The influence of Metropolis is very clear.

It is a very black film which seems to mix the Science-fiction and the American comics.

The spiral is a figure which frequently returns in film: marks on the body of the woman, labyrinth of the rats, forms clouds… It is the symbol of time, combining the concept of time cyclic (cycle of the days, of the seasons, of the life) and concept of time linear (progression, change). The men, the such rats of the laboratories, are pulled by this spiral.

In addition, the spiral also refers to Cold sweats ( Vertigo ) of Alfred Hitchcock, another film over time and the memory, with the spirals of the credits and the cut of the sequoia.

Daniel Paul Schreber is the name of a " patient" of Freud, in a case study devoted to the Paranoia. The name very similar to the doctor of film is not a chance, the using scenario of many elements of this study on paranoia.

The hero, John Murdoch, live in a hotel room carrying number 614. This figure refers to the Gospel according to St Jean in which the chapter 6:14 treats arrival of the Messie.

The decorations of film were re-used for the turning of Matrix: in particular for the scene of introduction where Trinity escapes the agents while jumping from buildings in buildings. (1999).
