Dardanelles

The Dardanelles form a area the North-West of the Turkey, located on both sides Détroit of Dardanelles (in the past named Hellespont).
By extension, the word indicates sometimes the strait itself .

History of the area

Close to the strait of Dardanelles, the site of Troy is.

In Antiquity, the area was the theater of two naval campaigns: in -411/-410 before J. - C., was held there the battles of Cynosséma, Abydos and Cyzique; while in -405, had place the battles of Aigos Potamos.

During the First World War (1915), it was the object of a battle called Bataille of Dardanelles. She opposed the troops of the Triple Alliance, which unloaded to attack the Triple Alliance side of the Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria, combined Empire of Germany.
