Dar be Salam

Dar be Salam also written Dar Es Salam or Dar Es Salaam (in Kiswahili Dar Es Salaam, in Arab: rear RTL دارالسلام, Dār have-Salām, “House of Peace or Haven of peace”), formerly Mzizima, are more the big city (2,5  million inhabitants In 2003), the economic center, and the old capital of the Tanzania. The population of the city believes of 4,4  % annually. Dar be Salam is the main port of Tanzania, giving on the Indian Ocean. Y forward exports of Café, Coton, and Sisal. Local industries include the food products, of the textiles, cement, and the medicinal products. The majority of the inhabitants are Moslem.

In 1859, Albert Roscher of Hamburg became the first European to be unloaded in Mzizima (“healthy city”). In 1866, the sultan Seyyid Madjid of Zanzibar gave the current name of the city which means “residence of Arab peace” in . After the death of Madjid in 1870, the city declines until établissemnent in 1887 of a counter of the German company of the East Africa. The growth of the city was facilitated by its role of administrative and commercial center of the German East Africa and industrial expansion resulting from the construction of the railway line which serves all the area at the beginning of the Années 1900.

The German East Africa was conquered by the English during the First World War and is indicated under the name of the Tanganyika. Dar be Salam was maintained like administrative and commercial center of the territory. According to the British payment, the European sectors and separate African developed with a distance from the center of the city. The population of the city includes/understands also a great immigrants quantity of South Asia.

After the Second world war, Dar be Salam profited one fast period of growth. The political developments, including the formation and the rise to power of the African national union of Tanganyika (Tanganyika African National Union or TANU ), led Tanganyika to the independence of the British crown in December 1961.

Dar be Salam continued to be used as capital after fusion between the Tanganyika and Zanzibar in 1964 which creates the modern State of Tanzania. However, in 1973 of the provisions were made to relocate the capital with Dodoma, a city more centered inside Tanzania. The process of relocalization is not completed yet, Dar are Salam remains the most important city of Tanzania.

The embassy of the the United States in Dar be Salam was the target of an attack perpetrated by Al-Qaida on August 7th 1998.
