Daphne of Maurier , born the May 13rd 1907 with London, deceased the April 19th 1989 with By (Cornouailles), was a British novelist . She was the girl of the actor Sir Gerald of Maurier and the grand-daughter of the writer and draftsman George of Maurier, friend of Henry James and author in particular of Trilby . This origin was to facilitate the beginnings of its literary career and its first novel, The Loving Spirit ( the Chain of Love ), was published in 1931.

One owes him in particular Rebecca , published in 1938, which was carried to the screen in 1940 by Alfred Hitchcock, under the even title. The film the Birds in 1963, by same Hitchcock, is also inspired by one of its news.

She also wrote the Inn of Jamaica also adapted to the cinema by Alfred Hitchcock under the title of the Tavern of Jamaica (1939).

In the Glass-blowers , it evoked the French origins of its family.
