Daniele Manin
Daniele Manin , was born with Venice the May 13rd 1804 and died in Paris the September 22nd 1857. It is one of the actors of the Risorgimento.
Manin is a lawyer, with the republican and anti-Austrian ideas. In 1847, it takes part in the republican Congress. It writes a petition gathering all the objections of the Venetian population against the Austrian occupant and the address in Vienna. He is imprisoned in January 1848. The Venetian revolution of March 1848 releases it and it becomes one of the leaders of the republic with Niccolo Tommaseo. It drives out city the Austrians. He becomes president of the République of Venice from March in July 1848. In dissension with the vote of the fastening of Venice to the Piedmont, it is withdrawn. But after the defeat of Charles-Albert to Novare on March 23rd, 1849, it establishes a dictatorship in Venice and defends the city besieged by the Austrians, with the assistance of Garibaldi and Pepe. After 18 months of seat the city capitulates on August 24th, 1849.
Exiled to Paris, it gives Italian courses to survive but continuous to militate for the unification of Italy. In particular, it invites his friends to support the action of the Maison of Savoy.
Its ashes will be transferred to Venice in 1868.
