Daniel Solander

Daniel Carl Solander is a Botaniste Swedish, born the February 19th 1733 with Piteå (province of Norrbotten) and deceased the May 16th 1782 with London.

Wire of Pasteur Lutheran, he studies the Botanique near Carl von Linné (1707-1778) with the Université of Uppsala. He travels in England in 1760 to promote the new system of Classification linnéenne. As from 1763, he is assistant-librarian with the British Museum, and, the following year, is allowed with the Royal Society and becomes responsible for printed in British Museum.

In 1768, Joseph Banks request in Solander to accompany James Cook during its first voyage in the Peaceful on board the Endeavor .

On its return in 1771, he becomes the secretary and the librarian of Banks and lives in his house with Soho Square. In 1772. Solander accompanies Banks in its voyage in Iceland, with the Faroe Islands and the the Orkneys.
