Daniel Seghers (born the December 5th 1590 with Antwerp; deceased the November 2nd 1661 in Antwerp) was a brother Belgian Jésuite (Flemish), painter and disciple of Jan Brueghel the old one.
With died of his father (1601) Daniel and his mother expatrièrent themselves in Utrecht where it accepted an education calvinist. Of return to Antwerp in 1610 it was allowed in the workshop of Jan Bruegel of which he became disciple and friendly. Under its influence it returned to the catholic faith and entered the Society of Jesus like brother in 1614. Its finished religious formation it returned to Antwerp where it joined again with Jan Breugel and Pierre-Paul Rubens with which it collaborated for the decoration of the church St Ignace of Antwerp (now St Charles Borromée). Its speciality was already the painting of floral compositions. After a short stay in Brussels (1624-25) it was sent to Rome to improve near Italian artists. Of return to Antwerp in 1627 it reopened its workshop and was given entirely to its Article Some 200 tables are known, all with dominant floral (except some landscapes). When characters were necessary they like stone and in background, were always surrounded by a marvellous crown of varied flowers. Its compositions included/understood easily until about fifteen different flowers (with some butterflies). Its colors are fraiches and clear without being excessive. Its drawing is very careful. As brother Jesuit it worked free and its tables were often offered like gifts to important characters or benefactors of the colleges Jesuits. Thus one can now see his works in churches and museums of Belgium, with Vienna, Dresden, London, $the Hague and Madrid. It is some also in private collections. He died in his birthplace of Antwerp on November 2nd, 1661.
