Daniel Rabel

Daniel Rabel born with Paris in 1578, died and buried in Paris, without descent, the January 3rd 1637, is a painter and engraver French.

Among the objects of the treasure of Saint-Denis, it enlumina the Bible and published a book on the Armoiries of Germany. He worked much, like his father, for the astronomer Nicolas de Peiresc, raises Galileo. It is perhaps him which engraved the first chart of the the Moon, the year of before its death.
In 1633, the Peiresc scientist corresponded with Rabel and asked him to carry out drawings according to ancient vases had by private individuals. The minutes of these letters, the March 21st, April 4th, June 12th, July 16th, 1633, are preserved in the rich person library of Carpentras, they do not mention any address unfortunately.
In 1612, he is painter of the duke of Nevers Charles de Gonzague. In 1618 it settles with Saint-Germain-of-Meadows, where it paints Suite of flowers (1624, Cabinet of the prints of BNF) and Ballet of the dowager of Bilbao (Louvre).
It would have also painted landscapes with oil, as of the subjects of hunting.
It went has Madrid for Louis XIII which ordered to him the portrait of its been engaged Anne of Austria, and appointed it engineer of the king in 1625.
In 1631 and 1632, he was the first painter employed by Gaston of Orleans, third wire of Henri IV.
From 1617 with its death, he was also draftsman of Théâtre and Ballet from court. Besides its widow, Anthoinette Guibourg, will marry Jacques de Belville, Master of the Ballet S of the king and family friend.
Prince of the botanical art, exiled by Mazarin with Blois, Rabel studied also stars.
He was the founder of the first Botanical garden of province and imported, via his Brunyer doctor, many species of the the Antilles.
Its descendants seem to have continued to live in Blois, where Kléber Rabel is reproduced on the war memorial of 1914; his/her brother still lived in 1962.
The National library of France holds the original of the boards which have just been published: Daniel Rabel: “Collection of one hundred flowers and insects” (Anthèse edition taken again by Claude Draeger, 1991); paperboard for the royal ballet: Daniel Rabel, Draft for an opera of the great ball of the Dowager of Billebahaut: music of America (National library of France, Cabinet of the Prints).
