Daniel Hélin

Daniel Hélin is a French-speaking singer of Belgium. He was born with Ottignies the June 22nd 1971.

Beginnings

Obscure teenager, it finishes, in spite of a a little chaotic schooling, his secondary studies. Then, it starts studies of social worker. Then it drops and, after some small trades which marked its social vision of the life, it is registered with the Academy of Liege, section Dramatic art. It takes down there its diploma and the Price Rene Hainaux. In parallel, it is initiated with the trades of the circus: fire-eater, monocyclist… Actor, it played " The ballade of large the macabre" of Michel de Ghelderode, parts of Bertold Brecht of which " Exception and the règle" or " Brecht" collective; , and more recently, " Ubu King " of Alfred Jarry. In 1997-1998, he works in the Wandering entertainers of the Mirror. He starts to connect the first prices and the rewards for his musical work.

Its second album is produced by the French label Tôt or Late . (chronicle drawn from " The Frenc Touch") The music developed here is varied and changing, the tuba, the Trombone, all these coppers with Eastern sonorities involve us in waltz, tangos, airs disco musics or melodies déstructurées without tail nor head, with the service of the delirious texts of this insane singing. It is impossible to imagine in which marshes the brain of this man finds his ideas, in which jungles grouillantes of life, of words fricotant in unions against-nature. All the dictionary must pass there, since each song is built around a sonority. Thus in " Bulles" all the sentences finish by a word in " ul" , in " The cochon" it is with the turn of the words in " ure" and " an". And in spite of these constraints which it sets, Daniel Hélin manages to give a direction to his songs. Tenderness of the love life (" Clarisse" , " The breakdown of courant"), pacifist engagement (" The guerre") or for Chiapas, such are the various topics approached here. Odd obsessions mingle with all that, of the animals (pig, cow, slug as that of the small pocket) make episodical appearances in the middle of more serious songs.

Non-believer (2005)

With Velvet Sisters, Daniel produces Mécréant in 2005. Above, it offers " to us; Fritounette" , anthem in Belgium, and tells the reality of its old city on " Ottignies".
